Trigeminal neurolysis and retrogasserial neurotomy

Abstract

A 35 years experience in the obsevation and treament of 107 cases of trigeminal neuralia, is presented. Surgical treatment was performed in 16 cases with 75% of cured patiens, 12.5% mortality and 12.5% without results. 72 patients were treated by chemical neurolysis with 0% mortality, 90.3% of cured patiens, 4.2% with real improvement and 5.5% without results; 19.4% of transient disurbances: 9 headache, 4 arterial hypotension, 1 keraitis. The follow up of 51 cases for four yeas (70.8%) showed: 78.4% of deinite cure; 17. 7% of recidivation, of which 15.6% had a definite cure wih a reneurolysis or teracycline; 3.9% without resuls. The obtained results show the great superiority of he medical treament, neurolysis, over he surgical treament.
