ORIGINS
Revista de Cirugía del Uruguay has a long history, dating back to 1930—ten years after the founding of the Surgical Society of Montevideo in 1920.

The journal began with these words from Dr. Carlos Stajano:
“In its first ten years, our SURGICAL SOCIETY contributed to various national and international publications. However, for various reasons, the Society lacked its own official publication to reflect the work of Uruguayan surgeons.
After ten years of activity and tenacious struggle, we can confirm that in Uruguay, in the intervening time, a true scientific medium has emerged, one that did not exist ten years ago. New elements have been disciplined in step with the sessions, which are inevitably held every two weeks, and today the SOCIETY OF SURGERY, having a life of its own, fills a need in the environment, as does its newsletter.
The basic rule imposed by the editors is conciseness. Full-length articles will not be published; only summaries, conclusions, and key excerpts from presentations will be shared, giving readers the essence of the Society’s work in just a few lines.
All Society members will be active contributors, providing written comments after each session for inclusion in the journal.”
Dr. Carlos Stajano, Secretary General (1930)
