AI Usage Policies

Cirugía del Uruguay follows the recommendations provided by the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) in their document "Recommendations on ChatGPT and Chatbots in Relation to Scholarly Publications." Based on these guidelines, the following policies apply:

  1. Human authorship only: The journal only accepts articles authored by humans. Submissions where a chatbot is listed as an author or co-author will not be considered.
  2. Disclosure of AI usage: Authors must declare the use of chatbots or other AI tools in the preparation of their articles, specifying how these tools were used.
  3. AI-generated images: Any use of AI tools for generating images must be disclosed.
  4. AI in image editing: If AI tools are used for editing, enhancing, or managing images, this must also be disclosed.
  5. Author responsibility: Authors are fully responsible for the use of chatbots or ChatGPT in their work. This includes the accuracy of their research, ensuring no similarity to other sources (plagiarism), and proper attribution of all consulted sources, including chatbots, ChatGPT, and any other AI tools.
  6. AI detection by editors: Editors will use tools during the review process to detect content that has been generated or altered by AI.
  7. AI usage by reviewers: Reviewers are prohibited from using AI tools when reviewing assigned research.
