Diverticulum of the appendix as a finding in acute appendicitis

Diverticular disease of the appendix is infrequent and its incidence is generally estimated by studying appendectomy specimens.
They are usually asymptomatic, but can occasionally perforate and present clinically as acute appendicitis. In other cases they are associated with acute appendicitis.
We present a clinical case of a 46-year-old patient who consulted for an acute abdomen that was interpreted as acute appendicitis and with such a diagnosis he underwent surgery. It was confirmed intraoperatively and in the study of the resection specimen that also reported the presence of an appendicular diverticulum.
